I was weeding out my flower bed the other day and I thought I saw something move - like a bug or something. I stopped, looked for it {whatever "it" was}, seen nothing and went back to weeding.
And then I really seen it move!
It was a praying mantis.
He should be thankful I didn't accidently pick him up because insects totally creep me out. I love taking pictures of bugs but they better keep there sticky little feet off me!
I'm sure he wouldn't let that happen though, because praying mantises can move their heads nearly 300 degrees and they have binocular vision. So there is no doubt he was keeping an eye on me.
I'm always afraid a bug or spider will jump on my lens while I'm trying to get a close up. EEEK! I will probably pee my pants if that ever happens.
I'm going to do some research and see if I can find ways to attrack more praying mantises to our yard because they kill house flies. Anything that eats flies is a good friend of mine.

I felt bad for not pulling that small blade of grass off his back for him. Poor thing's going to have a tan line!
With such a dry, hot and humid summer happening here in Alabama, I know tan lines are everyones biggest concern.
Great pictures of your garden friends...and they are both friends. But, like you, I love the friendly bugs, as long as they aren't crawling on me. The black widow spiders at the chicken house.....not so much.
ReplyDeleteDefinetly do not love the black widow! I do have a soft spot for the "Charlotte" living outside our spare room window though. But then again, I think she eats flies. =)
ReplyDeleteI've been noticing Praying Mantids in my garden lately too--they blend in so well. I know they are good for the garden but they are SO freaky/creepy looking!!!
